Ann and Bill Mackay Entrance Award for Indigenous Students in Recognition of Joanne Dallaire (Ä¢¹½´«Ã½â€™s First Elder)

The Ann and Bill Mackay Entrance Award for Indigenous Students in Recognition of Joanne Dallaire (Ä¢¹½´«Ã½â€™s First Elder) recognizes the high academic achievement of a mature student entering any full-time or part-time academic program at the university.

Applicant must:

  • have clear academic standing
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • identify as an Indigenous Person
  • be enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time
  • be an undergraduate student
  • submit a statement (up to 1,000 words) on why they entered into their current program at Toronto Met and what they hope to accomplish from it.

Ann and Bill Mackay Entrance Scholarship for Indigenous Students in Recognition of Monica McKay (Founding Director of Indigenous Student Services)

Ann and Bill McKay Entrance Scholarship for Indigenous Students in Recognition of Monica McKay (Founding Director of Indigenous Student Services) recognizes the high academic achievement of a high school student entering any full-time or part-time academic program at the university.

Applicant must:

  • be enrolling in a post-secondary institution for the first time
  • Identify as an Indigenous Person (Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, non-status, status)
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • be an undergraduate student
  • have a minimum average of 80% from high school 

The scholarship is granted to the student with the highest incoming grade 12 average. 

Frank H. Hori Award for Indigenous Students

This award recognizes two Indigenous students with financial need at the university for their academic achievements and their connection to the Indigenous community. 

Applicant must: 

  • Identify as an Indigenous Person (Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, non-status, status)
  • be enrolled and attend classes in any full-time undergraduate degree program, graduate studies program, or post-graduate program
  • have clear academic standing
  • have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • demonstrate financial need as determined by the university

Students must provide a written statement (1,200-word maximum) describing their connection to their Indigenous community.

Bennett Equity Awards for Indigenous Students

This is a one time award for domestic students who are enrolled in full time studies at Ä¢¹½´«Ã½, who self-identify as Indigenous, and who demonstrate financial need.

Applicant must:

  • Be an undergraduate student
  • Enrolled in full time studies (80% or more of a full course load or at least 4 billing units), OR Full-
  • time (permanent disability: 40% or more of a full course load)
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the university
  • Have a minimum CGPA of 2.0
  • Recipients agree to participate in the Indigenous group mentoring offered in partnership with the Tri-Mentoring Program (TMP).

Indigenous Student Bursary

This bursary is provided to Indigenous students with financial need who are attending post-secondary programs and/or training programs at either Ontario publicly-assisted colleges and universities or approved Indigenous post-secondary education and training institutions. This bursary was first established in the 2008-09 academic year as part of the Government of Ontario's Indigenous Education Strategy. The value of each bursary ranges from $1,000 to $3,500.

Applicant must: 

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • be an Indigenous Person in Canada
  • be an Ontario resident
  • have clear academic standing
  • have a cumulative GPA of 1.67 or higher
  • be enrolled in a certificate program, part-time undergraduate degree program, full-time undergraduate degree program, graduate studies program or law school program
  • demonstrate financial need as determined by the university

Johnson Scholarship Foundation Indigenous Student Awards

The Johnson Scholarship Foundation has established this award to support Indigenous students and help ensure they reach graduation.

Applicant must:

  • be an undergraduate student
  • be enrolled in their first or second year of studies
  • be enrolled full-time or have an approved accommodation for a reduced course load
  • meet a minimum CGPA of 2.33
  • demonstrate financial need as determined by the university
  • Identify as an Indigenous Person (Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, non-status, status)

Submit a written statement (250 to 1,000 words) about their experiences as an Indigenous student. The statement should outline academic goals and how the scholarship will enhance these goals.

Métis Nation of Ontario Bursary

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Métis Student Bursary Program provides bursaries to registered students who are verified Métis citizens of the Métis Nation of Ontario. Applicants will be required to complete the MNO Metis Student Bursary Application and consent to an MNO citizenship verification check to confirm eligibility for these awards. Applicant must:

  • Have verified membership with the MNO and be able to provide proof of membership
  • Identify as an Indigenous Person (Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, non-status, status)
  • be a resident of Ontario
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • have clear academic standing
  • demonstrate financial need as determined by the University.

Rabbi Abraham Silverstein Indigenous Student Award

The Rabbi Abraham Silverstein Indigenous Student Award is suitable for high school students with final grades 80% or better. If there are no suitable high school applicants,  in consultation with the donor, Indigenous Student Services may consider applications from mature students entering the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree program. The award is renewable subject to the recipient maintaining a CGPA of 3.00 or better in each of their first, second and third years of study (Fall + Winter terms) and continuing to demonstrate financial need.

Applicant must: 

  • Identify as an Indigenous Person (Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, non-status, status)
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Person
  • be a resident of Ontario
  • demonstrate financial need as determined by the university

Mature students entering their first year of a four-year program will be considered for this award if no suitable qualifying direct-entry students apply.

Toronto Metropolitan Association - Indigenous Student Award

The Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association Undergraduate Award for Indigenous Students acknowledges the efforts of Indigenous students, enrolled in an undergraduate program, who maintain academic proficiency, as well as demonstrate a commitment to social justice and/or labour relations both on and off-campus.

Applicant must:

  • have clear academic standing
  • be of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Inuit ,Métis, non-status, status)
  • have a CGPA of 2.50 or higher

Students may apply for and receive the bursary on an annual basis until they have completed their studies.
